Household Stability

Shortly after starting the Joan Rose Foundation I realized that if I really wanted to help the children long-term that I needed to employ their parents. It was clear that as long as their home situations were unstable, we would be limited in what percentage of children we could actually help.  I was growing to love the children at the JRF, as they were with me at the foundation for several hours a day. The children we lost were literally haunting my dreams and I knew that I needed to do something to help bring stability to the childrens household and tie their families to the Joan Rose Foundation. We would lose children either due to their parents moving in search of work, getting evicted and moving or the child seeing some trauma at home that scarred them more than they could handle. I heard about needlepoint belts and knew I had a product that I could use to employ the children’s parents and Founded Good Threads(link goodthreadsneedlepoint.com).  Today Good Threads employ’s just about all of the children at the JRF’s parents as well as many local Jacmel workers. It is an official Benefit corporation and provides the Joan Rose Foundation with thousands of dollars in donation a year.
