The mission of the Joan Rose Foundation is to help impoverished children break the cycle of poverty that they are stuck in.
The Joan Rose Foundation was founded in 2010 in Esperanza, Dominican Republic. We worked with impoverished Haitian and Dominican children. They would come to our center Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm, and Saturdays 11am-1pm. While at the foundation we provided food, education, clothing, medicine, love and support.
In 2015 we moved our operations and 23 core families to Jacmel, Haiti. By late 2014 the large majority of the children at the foundation were Haitian. We lost faith that our Haitian children would be allowed to have real success in the Dominican Republic. We bought land in Jacmel, built 12 building, containing 27 housing units and moved.
Since arriving in Jacmel we have grown to accept over 50 local children, bringing our total enrollment over 125 children. We pay for these children to attend a high end private school, provide Breakfast and Lunch, tutoring and additional reading classes Monday-Friday.
Our ultimate goal is to give these children the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty that they and their families are stuck in. For some, this may involve going to college, and for others it may mean learning a trade. We operate on a case by case basis and are realistic in our hopes and expectations. Our work is made possible by donors in the United States and we sincerely hope that our donors feel a sense of ownership over the work we do.
